Chess tournaments for GM and IM norms and ELO rating-points in Budapest

Tournament description

Open tournament in 2 groups between 12-17 September 2025:

Norm Swiss group – for players above 2200. Some u2200 exceptions can be made to satisfy the Norm Swiss status.
FIDE now requires a 40+ player Swiss norm for GM, IM, WGM, WIM titles. Therefore at least 8 GMs will be guaranteed.
Event will satisfy 1.43d foreigner requirement, making it more accommodating for players to earn norms

U2250 group – for players between 1800-2250. Both groups will be 9 round Swiss System tournaments. (In case of 10 or less players, u2250 group will be a round robin tournament)

Playing hall capacity: 80 players. In the u2250 group the first 16 applications can be confirmed. Further places might open depending ont he number of the players in the Norm Swiss group.

Participant lists will be updated regularly on chess-results.com.

1055 Budapest, Falk Miksa utca 10., tournament hall of the Hungarian Chess Federation

Time control

90 minutes for the whole game with 30 seconds increment for each move starting from the first move

The Hungarian Chess Federation takes 20 € / year from each player, who plays in Hungary.

Regarding entry fees for players below 1800 in U2250 tournament, and below 2200 in the Norm Swiss tournament please contact organizer.

Payment: in the Norm Swiss tournament 100 EUR in advance by bank transfer, the remaing amount can be paid before first round in cash based on the September FIDE ratings. In the u2250 tournament entry fees can be paid by cash before first round.
Withdrawals/Refunds: until 31 July: full refund, 01-31 August: 50% refund, after 01 September: no refund.

Application deadline: 5 September 2025.

Conditioned players: conditions are available for all GMs, includes shared accommodation and cash in certain cases.

Prizes

Norm Swiss group – guaranteed prize fund (at minimum 40 players): 2000 EUR prize fund will be increased above 50 and 60 players.

40+ players – 1. 800 EUR (guaranteed).
50+ players – 1. 1000 EUR
60+ players – 1. 1200 EUR
Final prize structure will be published before the start of the tournament.

U2250 group – guaranteed 500 EUR prize fund, which will be split between the 1-3 places as follows:

1. 250 EUR
2. 150 EUR
3. 100 EUR

In case of ties, prizes will be shared equally between the players.

Accommodation

Accommodation should be arranged by the players. There are numerous hotels, and apartments near the playing venue in the city centre of Budapest with prices starting from around 40 EUR/person/night.
